Design thinking offers a problem-solving approach widely adopted by the most innovative companies and organizations - but beyond anecdotal success stories, there is little (in-depth) research to validate its actual impact - until now.

The design thinking elements and their enabling mechanisms work together to effect innovation processes and actual outcomes.

We recently welcomed Professor Jeanne Liedtka of the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business to host a webinar to report and expand on the results of her research conducted at UVA over the past 6 years, exploring cases from over 30 organizations using design thinking in practice. This is perhaps the most comprehensive analysis on the impact of design thinking to-date, detailing her methods to:

  • Identify the most effective elements actually practiced under the rubric of “design thinking”
  • Assess design thinking’s value for enhancing innovation outcomes
  • Evaluate the overall impact of design thinking in practice

"Below the water is where design thinking has its most significant impact", Jeanne Liedtka on the measurable impacts of DT.

Jeanne is a highly influential leader in accelerating the adoption of design thinking & human-centered design methods and helping "non-design thinkers" to understand their value. Her ongoing research focuses on the intersection of innovation and strategy, in particular the integration of design thinking into organizational problem solving processes.

She's published the full academic paper, Evaluating the Impact of Design Thinking in Practice, available for download through the Darden School of Business.

If you missed the webinar, we've got you covered.
